A bank branch in Graçanica hands over over 500 euros suspected to be counterfeit to the police

A bank employee reported discovering 573 euros while conducting a check at ATMs suspected of handling counterfeit currency. According to a 24-hour report issued by the Kosovo Police, the incident took place on Friday in the area of Qagllavicë, Gračanica. The police report confirmed that the banknotes recovered during the check have been confiscated by the forensics unit.

The official statement noted, “The male complainant, a bank employee, reported finding 573 euros during a check at the ATMs. The banknotes have been confiscated by the forensics unit. The case is under investigation.”

The discovery occurred during routine operational checks at the bank’s facilities.

Authorities are treating the matter as a potential case of fraudulent activity involving the circulation of fake euros. The presence of suspected counterfeit notes prompted the involvement of law enforcement and forensic specialists. The investigation aims to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and to ascertain the extent of the potential financial loss or exposure.

The recovered euros and the suspect ATMs are currently being processed by the forensic unit. The police have indicated that the case remains under active investigation as they work to establish all facts surrounding the counterfeit banknotes.
