Italy faces extreme heat, temperatures expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius

Italy is currently experiencing the most severe phase of the year’s third heatwave, with temperatures in Sardinia expected to reach up to 45 degrees Celsius. Dry conditions across the region have resulted in notable water shortages. According to the ANSA news agency, local heat warning systems have been expanded following warnings issued by authorities regarding dangerous conditions across central and southern Italy.

The alert status for cities has escalated significantly. The number of municipalities placed at the highest red alert level increased from level 2 on Monday to level 4 on Tuesday. Authorities anticipate that seven cities will reach this highest risk category by Wednesday.

Meteorologists are forecasting temperatures between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius across many areas of central and southern Italy, while Sardinia is expected to reach a peak of 45 degrees Celsius by Friday. These escalating conditions necessitate heightened public awareness and adherence to safety guidelines. The sustained high temperatures pose significant risks to public health, particularly concerning dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

The expansion of the warning system underscores the severity of the current weather event across Italy.
