Afghan man, 43, arrested in Vlorë for organizing the illegal entry of migrants from Greece into Albania

Authorities in Vlorë apprehended a 43-year-old Afghan man following an investigation into the illegal movement of people across the border. The incident came to light after border police intervened when a group of migrants were found struggling in a dinghy and reportedly at risk of drowning near Sazan Island. Following the rescue, specialized crime investigation units from the DVKM Vlorë, in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office, conducted thorough inquiries.

These investigations led to the arrest of the Afghan national on the spot. The man has been formally charged with multiple offenses related to human smuggling and illegal border crossings. Specifically, he is accused of “Assisting illegal border crossing” and “Illegal crossing.” Authorities allege that the Afghan national was responsible for organizing the illicit entry of ten migrants originating from Greece into Albania.

Furthermore, evidence suggests that the individual had planned subsequent transport of the group toward Italy. The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Albanian law enforcement to combat irregular migration routes. The arrests and subsequent charges reflect the seriousness with which authorities are treating the organization and facilitation of illegal border crossings involving vulnerable populations.

The legal proceedings are ongoing as authorities continue to process the details of the alleged smuggling network.
