Torres condemns Paunović’s declaration: It is an open embrace of genocide, he must step down

Congressman Ritchie Torres strongly criticized Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović following her statement suggesting she would have perpetrated the “ethnic cleansing of Kosovo” if she had occupied the position of Slobodan Milošević. Torres characterized her remarks as “morally reprehensible” and an “open embrace of genocide” directed against Kosovo Albanians. Speaking to Gazeta Express, Torres stated, “Snežana Paunović’s declaration that she would have carried out the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo if she were in Milošević’s place is morally reprehensible and an open embrace of genocide against the Albanian people.” He further asserted that Kosovo possessed the right to deny her entry into the country and demanded her immediate resignation.

Torres also voiced support for the decisions made by Kosovo’s institutions regarding her status. His condemnation focused heavily on the implication of ethnic cleansing, framing it as an unacceptable endorsement of violence against the Albanian population in Kosovo. The congressman’s comments underscore a strong diplomatic disagreement with Paunović’s statements regarding the history and treatment of Kosovo Albanians.
