Mechanics put down their tools and return to being musicians after hours

In Kutahya, Turkey, a group of five mechanics has established a unique after-hours tradition. Following their work repairing vehicles throughout the day, the five mechanics gather and perform music as a hobby. The group, known as “Grup Sanayi,” uses their musical performances to alleviate the fatigue accumulated during the workday and provide entertainment for local residents.

The five mechanics, who are proficient on various musical instruments, began forming the group approximately three years ago. Their musical sessions effectively replace the ambient sounds of engines and mechanical repairs that characterize the area during the day. Ali Yazgan, the group’s founder and a professional mechanic, noted his extensive experience in the field, having worked as a vehicle mechanic for 34 years.

He also shared that he has played the saz instrument since childhood. Yazgan indicated that the initial interest that brought the group together was centered on music. The mechanics’ commitment to this hobby allows them to transform their post-work routine into a source of community enjoyment, offering a cultural contrast to the industrial sounds of their profession.
