Pristina Mayor Përparim Rama has announced that the capital city will review all forms of institutional cooperation and support with BIRN Kosovo. This decision follows the publication of an opinion piece on Kallxo.com, which was attributed to the pseudonym “Lule Gjeli.”
In response to the article, Mayor Rama has formally requested detailed clarifications from several parties, including BIRN Kosovo, Kallxo.com, Internews Kosovo, and director Jeta Xharra. The Mayor seeks information regarding the true author of the opinion, the specifics and timing of any cooperation between the entities, and whether the author received payment for the published content.
Mayor Rama stipulated that these clarifications must be made publicly by Monday. He issued a warning that institutional cooperation will be suspended if the responses do not meet what he deems appropriate standards of transparency. Furthermore, he has requested an investigation into suspected fake profiles operating on Facebook.
Separately, Kallxo.com has issued a clarification regarding the opinion piece, confirming that it was published on August 27, 2020. The Mayor’s directive signals a review of the existing working relationship, particularly concerning the nature and transparency of the cooperation between Pristina’s institutions and BIRN.
