According to Janjiq, the goal involves encouraging the church to distance itself from Moscow’s sway and potentially re-establish stronger ties with the Greek Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul. Speaking to KosovaPress, the founder of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, Janjiq characterized this development as being embedded within a larger geopolitical strategy.
He asserted that Washington aims to exert influence over the standing of the Serbian Orthodox Church within Kosovo. The expert noted that this process is currently unfolding through what he termed a “spiritual dialogue,” which has already begun and involves various international participants. Janjiq suggested that the overarching geopolitical ambition is two-fold: either facilitating the detachment of the church from Russian influence or, alternatively, strengthening its existing connection with Moscow.
