A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the southern island of Kyushu in Japan on the afternoon of April 28th, resulting in numerous casualties, including an estimated 38 fatalities. During the seismic event, medical staff were performing an operating procedure on a patient within a hospital setting, forcing the surgical team to manage severe tremors inside the operating room. Doctors were observed securing the operating table and providing cover for the patient as the room experienced violent shaking. During the incident, one doctor reportedly fell to the floor while attempting to stabilize mobile equipment. Concurrently, two other medical staff members maintained a grip on the operating table to prevent it from shifting during the earthquake’s intensity.
It was reported that the operating procedure was momentarily paused due to the tremors but was subsequently resumed and concluded without complication.
