The water situation in the city of Gostivar is showing signs of gradual stabilization, with recent testing indicating a significant decrease in bacterial levels. Despite these improvements, local authorities have maintained the ban on consuming the water for drinking and cooking purposes. Stojance Angellov, Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, confirmed that while the quality of the water has visibly improved, it has not yet been certified as potable.
Angellov stated that the final determination regarding its safety must come from the Food and Veterinary Agency. “The water situation in Gostivar has visibly improved; the latest analyses are much better than previous ones, but time is needed for it to be declared permissible and clean for drinking,” Angellov noted. He added that the Food and Veterinary Agency is responsible for confirming that the water in Gostivar is safe for consumption, both chemically and bacterially.
Consequently, residents are advised to continue using alternative, safe sources for drinking and cooking until the official clearance is issued by the relevant health and veterinary authorities. The ongoing monitoring process aims to ensure that the water meets all established public health standards before the restrictions are lifted.
