SpaceX’s discarded rocket collides with the Moon, images reveal new crater

New imagery obtained from the Moon has documented the impact site left by a piece of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The second stage of the rocket, which had been adrift in space for several months, struck the lunar surface on August 5th. According to reports, the object impacted the moon at an estimated speed of 8,700 kilometers per hour.

The debris, estimated to weigh around four tons, possessed dimensions comparable to a bus. This high-velocity impact resulted in the formation of a new crater and scattered significant quantities of lunar dust and rock debris across the immediate vicinity. The photographic evidence of the impact site was captured by the Korean satellite, Danuri, which passed over the area shortly following the collision.

The images provide visual documentation of the event involving the SpaceX component.
