The Environmental Inspectorate has ordered the closure of the establishment “Liqeni i Dukagjinit,” citing its operation within the protected area of Lake Radoniq. According to the acting minister, Fitore Pacolli, the facility was deemed an illegal operation that operated in direct contravention of established environmental legislation. Minister Pacolli stressed that safeguarding drinking water resources is a non-negotiable priority.
She stated that the restaurant and hotel were in “flagrant violation of the Water Law, Government Decision 09/127 on the designation of sanitary zones of Lake Radoniq, and other subordinate acts.” The operation was accused of directly endangering the safety and quality of the lake’s drinking water supply. As Minister, Pacolli announced that a comprehensive investigation has been requested into all circumstances and responsible parties who permitted this alleged abuse. The scope of the inquiry includes examining the actions of former responsible officials.
The move underscores the commitment of the government to maintaining the ecological integrity of the area. The action taken by the inspectorate highlights the regulatory enforcement measures in place to protect sensitive natural sites like the lake.
