Clash over municipal funding, AKK responds to Krasniqi: Where did the 10-14 million euros from the EU end up?

The Association of Kosovo Municipalities has issued a response to statements made by the acting Minister of Local Authority Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, concerning municipal funding and the role of the Association. During his address, Krasniqi asserted that the budget allocated to the municipalities has seen a 66 percent increase. He further stated that the Association should serve as the representative voice for the 38 municipalities.

Krasniqi also addressed criticisms regarding local authority finances, explaining that reallocated funds have not been lost but have been returned to the municipalities via various investment projects. In a subsequent response to the media, Sazan Ibrahimi, the Executive Director of the Association of Kosovo Municipalities, indicated that while he preferred to avoid personal attacks, he felt compelled to comment following the minister’s statements. The exchange highlights differing perspectives on the management and allocation of funds intended for local governance structures.

The association’s response aims to clarify its position following the Minister’s assertion regarding the substantial budget growth and the expected representative function of the Association concerning the financial health of the municipalities.
