The Mayor of the Municipality of Hanit e Elezit, Mehmeti Ballazhi, announced the activation of public internet access points within local recreational areas. As part of the WiFi4WB initiative, free public internet connectivity has been established in two key municipal parks: “Isa Berisha” Park and “Bllaca ’99” Park. This development aims to significantly enhance the usability of these public spaces for the community.
The provision of Wi-Fi service offers citizens, students, and visitors the ability to remain connected to the digital world while utilizing the amenities of the parks. According to the mayor’s statement, the project is designed to make these areas more conducive to various modern activities, including remote work, educational pursuits, general communication, and leisure. The overall goal is to contribute substantially to the digitalization and modern functionality of public infrastructure within the municipality.
The WiFi4WB project represents a collaborative effort supported by several international and local partners. Funding and support for the initiative come from the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany through the EU4Digital program. Additional contributions are provided by GIZ and Telekomi i Kosovës – Vala.
The deployment of these free internet services underscores a commitment to bridging the digital divide by ensuring accessible connectivity across public life.
