Sugar, a pigeon owned by a resident of Chesterfield, Missouri, has been officially recognized as the oldest “pet” pigeon, at 44 years and 72 days old. Guinness World Records confirmed the title, surpassing the previous record held by a German pigeon named Methuselah, who lived for over 15 years. Pigeons typically live around 20 years in captivity.
Dewayne Orender, 77, of Chesterfield, is Sugar’s owner. He has held the record for the oldest pet pigeon since 2018. “He seems very happy and content,” Orender stated to Guinness World Records.
“I love him very much – we and he are the best of friends.”
The recognition highlights Sugar’s exceptional lifespan and marks a significant achievement for the bird and its owner. Guinness World Records continues to document and verify extraordinary records of animals and humans alike.
