Kosovar judoka Shpati Zekaj competed in the quarterfinals of the “Tarranto 2026” Mediterranean Games, where he was eliminated. In the initial round, Shpati Zekaj secured a victory against Ippon Aleksandar Tomic of Montenegro. However, during the quarterfinals, he was defeated by Ippon against Koussay Ben Gare from Tunisia.
Despite this loss, Zekaj remains a contender for the bronze medal in the up to 100 kilogram category. To potentially secure a medal, Shpati Zekaj is scheduled to participate in the repechage round, where he will face Greek judoka Athanasios Mylonelis. The event saw several other athletes achieve medals.
On Thursday (Friday), judokas Fatjona Kasapi, Akil Gjakova, and Flaka Loxha were awarded bronze medals. Additionally, Laura Fazliu is set to compete on Friday. The competition continues to feature high levels of athletic performance across various weight classes.
