Mitrovica Mayor Faton Peci issued a statement regarding the planned protest by the Association of Kosovo Municipalities. In a Facebook post, Peci expressed his opposition to the demonstration, asserting that it is motivated by a political agenda. Peci stated that the planned protest by certain municipal mayors does not serve the interests of the citizenry but rather serves a commercial agenda.
He emphasized that the resolution of inter-institutional communication matters must be achieved through dialogue. According to Peci, the initiative—which involves some municipal mayors warning of participation in a protest against the government—possesses a purely political agenda and fails to advance the provision of services to the public. Furthermore, Peci addressed the financial matters concerning the municipalities.
He clarified that the hundreds of millions of euros allocated to the financial structure of the municipalities are not obligations of the current government led by Albin Kurti. Instead, he asserted that these funds are obligations belonging to the PAN government. The Mayor’s comments suggest a disagreement with the underlying motives of the planned protest, framing it as politically motivated rather than service-oriented.
