Seven years ago, researchers at ASHAK produced the Kosovar Encyclopedia. The resulting publication contained a significant number of errors, leading to its classification as overtly nationalist. Specifically, Albanian villages were incorrectly listed as Serbian villages within the text.
I, along with numerous Kosovo professors and intellectuals, voiced our concerns regarding this flawed undertaking. We recognized the problematic nature of the approach and proposed an alternative methodology for encyclopedia registrations. Our aim was to allocate resources more effectively towards beneficial projects.
Our suggestion centered on delaying immediate printing. Instead, the work should have been hosted on an online platform. This would have allowed anyone to contribute observations and corrections.
A dedicated commission would then review these submissions, refine the information, and subsequently, proceed with publishing the book. This system would have ensured greater accuracy and avoided the initial misrepresentation of many villages. The proposed method prioritized careful consideration and collaborative improvement, ultimately leading to a more reliable and valuable encyclopedia.
