A resident in Italy was assisted by a cleaning company after mistakenly discarding a lottery ticket valued at $1.15 million. Roberto Nicola Toscano, a director at the waste collection company Sanb, confirmed that the ticket belonged to a MillionDay draw. The individual had previously scanned the ticket at a retail store, which displayed a message indicating the ticket was “unclaimable.” Believing this message meant the ticket was invalid, the resident discarded it in the trash.
Toscano explained that the actual reason for the “unclaimable” notice was related to the high monetary value, not the ticket’s validity. Upon realizing the ticket’s potential winnings, the player’s family returned to the store, only to find that the waste had already been collected. The family subsequently contacted the waste collection company, Sanb.
The company initiated an investigation, successfully identifying the specific truck responsible for collecting the store’s refuse. This intervention by the company allowed for the recovery of the valuable lottery ticket.
