Abdikshi or Haziri, LDK demands the presidency

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) indicated it could unify its votes, comprising 18 deputies elected to the Parliament of Kosovo, should the Vetëvendosje Movement agree to offer the presidency of Kosovo as part of a potential political accord. This statement was made by Lutfi Haziri, the Deputy Chairman of the LDK, speaking to Radio Free Europe. According to Haziri, the LDK’s support for a unified vote is contingent upon the presidential candidate being selected from within the LDK.

He specified that if the nominee were either LDK leader Lumiri Abdixhi or himself, the party could achieve unity. Haziri elaborated on the internal consensus, stating that Lumiri Abdixhi should be the preferred candidate due to his official leadership role, followed by himself, who reportedly commands broad support within the LDK. The comments follow the recent parliamentary elections held on June 7.

The potential alignment suggests that the LDK’s participation in the formation of the next government in Kosovo hinges on key agreements regarding the highest executive office. Haziri’s remarks underscore the conditional nature of the LDK’s political maneuvering in the current landscape of Kosovo politics.
