Xhemal Abdiu, the head of the Anti-Gambling Movement, presented concerning data regarding the prevalence of gambling during an appearance on the Impakt show. According to Abdiu, the number of citizens engaging in gambling has increased noticeably, a trend he attributes to the growth in the quantity of casino and betting establishments. Beyond the rise in participation, Abdiu highlighted the escalating financial cost associated with the industry.
He pointed out a significant escalation in expenditure, noting that the annual spending has risen dramatically. Previously, the figure was cited around 280 million euros; however, the current annual expenditure is estimated to be approximately 3 billion euros. Abdiu emphasized that this substantial sum represents funds drawn directly from the disposable income of the citizens.
Furthermore, the movement head raised concerns about the physical placement of these venues. He noted that many of these establishments are situated in close proximity to educational facilities. In addition to the financial and spatial concerns, Abdiu indicated that legislative action is necessary.
He stated that while new laws could be introduced to address the issue, the specifics of those regulatory measures require further consideration.
