Accused of tax evasion and money laundering, French film star Isabelle Adjani is sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined 10,000 euros.

French actress Isabelle Adjani was recently sentenced by the Paris Court of Appeal to ten months in conditional jail and a fine amounting to 10,000 euros. The ruling found her guilty of tax evasion and money laundering. This penalty marks a notable reduction when compared to the initial judgment handed down in December 2023, which had imposed a two-year conditional jail term and a fine of 250,000 euros.

A representative for the actress, David Lepidi, characterized the outcome as a significant reduction in penalty. However, he cautioned that the legal process remains ongoing. “All this noise surrounding this case, and in the end, the penalty is drastically reduced,” Lepidi stated, adding that the defense intends to appeal the decision to the Court of Cassation.

The 71-year-old actress, known for roles in films such as Queen Margot, has faced legal scrutiny regarding financial matters. The court proceedings centered on allegations related to tax compliance and the laundering of funds. The new sentence, while substantially less severe than the previous verdict, confirms her conviction on these financial charges.

The decision by the Paris Court of Appeal sets a new benchmark for the case, providing a revised financial penalty in euros and a modified custodial term. The subsequent appeal process to the highest court will determine the final disposition of the charges related to the tax irregularities.
