Over 1.7 tons of cannabis were cultivated in 4 greenhouses in Berat – 17 individuals are charged with the crime

The Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime has convicted seventeen members of an organized criminal group for cultivating cannabis within four greenhouses located in Berat between 2021 and 2022. During a shortened trial, the court delivered several prison sentences to the individuals involved. Sadetin Hasaj and Blerim Xheka, identified as leaders of the criminal enterprise, each received a sentence of eight years and eight months in prison.

Other defendants received varying terms of imprisonment. Sidrit Bisha, Suad Smakaj, Jurgen Ujkaj, Samoel Lushaj, Endriol Xheka, Mirvaldo Disha, and Hamdi Dyli were each sentenced to six years and eight months. Arben Vrapi, Adiol Çifliku, Lulzim Bushataj, Mustaf Manej, Bashkim Mema, and Edison Mema were each sentenced to five years and four months.

For Drita Mema and Izmire Mema, the Court ruled a four-year prison term. However, the execution of this sentence was suspended, requiring both individuals to serve a three-year period in probation service. The findings relate specifically to the operation involving the cultivation of cannabis within the aforementioned greenhouses in Berat.
