AGK: Padia and Blinera Osmanit ndaj disa gazetarëve dhe mediave përmban elemente të qarta të një padie SLAPP

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK) has initiated legal action against several media outlets, alleging a sustained pattern of intimidation and attempts to silence their clients, Padia and Blinera Osmani. The legal proceedings, ongoing for several years, center around accusations that media organizations have employed Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, commonly known as SLAPPs, to suppress the Osmani’s legal challenges. The AGK’s lawsuit targets Lajme and Gazeta Express, which were named in the initial complaint.

The organization asserts that these media outlets have utilized SLAPP tactics as a means to discourage legal action taken by the Osmani family. SLAPPs are lawsuits filed primarily to harass and intimidate defendants rather than to prove a legitimate legal claim. They often involve excessive litigation costs and can have a chilling effect on freedom of expression.

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo is seeking to hold the media outlets accountable for what they allege is a deliberate strategy to silence dissenting voices. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the use of legal mechanisms to stifle criticism and protect media organizations from legitimate legal challenges.
