The Association of Kosovo Municipalities (AKK) has issued a public statement urging central government institutions to provide immediate financial compensation for damages sustained by various municipalities due to recent flooding events. The AKK Board expressed significant concern regarding the extent of the damage across multiple municipal areas. According to the association, a substantial portion of the damages incurred from both the 2023 and January 2026 floods remains uncompensated, a situation the AKK deems unacceptable.
In their statement, the association emphasized that the support required by the citizens is tangible and immediate, stating, “Citizens do not need visits and photographs, but concrete support and timely compensation.”
The AKK noted that the municipalities have diligently completed all necessary damage assessments and have fulfilled their required obligations in the aftermath of the natural disasters. Consequently, the association is calling for the establishment of a dedicated Emergency Fund specifically for the municipalities. This fund, the AKK argues, is necessary to ensure that the necessary recovery efforts can proceed without further delay, providing the concrete support that the citizens of these areas require.
