Albania: 233 houses burned and 10 victims in 2025, cause of gas pipelines

Albania Reports Significant Increase in House Fires Over Past Year

The State Police of Albania has reported a concerning rise in residential fires across the country over the past year. A total of 233 houses were burned, resulting in tragic consequences, including 10 fatalities due to asphyxiation and five injuries. Data indicates a concentrated number of incidents occurred in major cities.

Tirana recorded the highest number of burned houses with 93 cases, followed by Durrës with 27 and Vlora with 20. Investigations have identified several key factors contributing to the outbreaks. These include incidents involving gas cylinders, electrical defects and short circuits, and the deliberate burning of electric vehicles within garages.

Shkëlqim Goxhaj, a representative of the State Police, highlighted the risks associated with underground spaces and the use of generators. As a result, generators within the Tirana Municipality have been relocated, primarily targeting those used by market stalls. Goxhaj emphasized the importance of public vigilance, urging citizens to report any instances of unauthorized use of underground floors.

The police continue to investigate the causes of these fires and emphasize preventative measures to ensure public safety within Albania.
