Albania’s Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, announced the decision to declare two North Macedonian citizens, Valon Belës and Bekir Halimi, persona non grata for a period of ten years. According to Lamallari, this decision was formalized on April 17 and was enacted in the interest of protecting Albania’s national interests. Speaking during an interview with “Tirana Live” on ABC News, Lamallari emphasized that Albania will not tolerate any agenda or incitement of violence that could compromise the nation’s safety.
He affirmed that the State Police remains dedicated to ensuring public order and safety within the country. Lamallari stated that the measure was implemented based on intelligence gathered and following consultations with relevant security agencies. He added that, as Albania moves closer to integration with the European family, the nation must act in a manner consistent with a member state.
“As we get closer to the European family, we must act as a member state, taking every necessary measure not only to guarantee security,” Lamallari noted. The declaration concerning the two individuals underscores Albania’s commitment to maintaining internal security while pursuing deeper regional and European integration.
