Albanian diaspora protests in Bern against corruption in Albania and in support of the “Flamingo Revolution”

A wave of demonstrations targeting corruption and environmental degradation in Albania has seen its solidarity efforts extend to Switzerland. On Saturday, approximately one hundred individuals gathered in the main square in front of the Swiss parliament in Bern to support the ongoing protest movement within their home country, according to the Swiss news agency SDA-Keystone. The assembly was organized by members of the Albanian diaspora residing in Switzerland.

Participants displayed handmade signs bearing messages such as “Albania is also mine,” signaling their strong commitment to the cause. The primary demands voiced during the gathering centered on the immediate resignation of the current government in Tirana. Beyond demanding governmental change, the protesters called for comprehensive constitutional reforms.

A specific point of emphasis among the demonstrators was the necessity of implementing structural changes to limit the tenure of the prime minister. The gathering reflects the continued engagement of the Albanian community abroad regarding domestic governance issues. These protests underscore the deep concern held by the diaspora regarding the political and environmental trajectory of Albania.
