Aliu: I submitted the documents to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the case of the operations in the heart

The outgoing Minister of Health, Azir Aliu, has announced the conclusion of the review concerning questionable heart surgeries. Aliu confirmed that the resulting reports have been formally submitted to the appropriate governing institutions for further action. During the investigation, the Ministry of Health established a commission composed of local experts.

This body reviewed medical records and identified ten instances of heart surgeries deemed suspicious. Complementing this effort, a separate foreign commission analyzed a larger sample, examining a total of thirteen cardiac surgery cases. This international review concluded that irregularities were present in nine of the analyzed patients’ procedures.

Minister Aliu stated that the Ministry’s internal procedures have been finalized and approved during a closed governmental session. He confirmed that all cabinet ministers have been fully briefed on the findings. The accumulated materials have since been provided to the relevant external authorities responsible for handling the subsequent aspects of the case.

The announcement marks the formal wrap-up of the Ministry’s internal assessment regarding the scope and necessity of these heart procedures. The findings are now with the designated bodies to ensure appropriate oversight within the national health framework. This development signals a structured conclusion to the review process concerning surgical care and patient safety within the broader health sector.
