Andonovski: Hoping that North Macedonia will be the first country to have cost-free roaming with the EU.

North Macedonia Anticipates Early Access to EU Roaming Without Additional Costs

North Macedonia is positioned to be among the first countries to benefit from the European Union’s initiative to eliminate additional charges for roaming services within the bloc. Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, expressed optimism regarding potential developments at the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit, scheduled for early June in Podgorica. Andonovski believes the summit will yield positive outcomes, particularly concerning the implementation of “home roaming” agreements.

The EU is currently initiating negotiations with candidate countries, with a tailored approach designed for each nation. These negotiations will result in the signing of specific agreements mirroring the Stabilization-Association Agreement currently in place between the EU and North Macedonia. A key element of this process involves the country’s fulfillment of conditions, specifically the approval of the Law on Communications.

“There is an announcement for the start of negotiations, which is a positive signal,” Andonovski stated. “The change is that a specific agreement similar to the Stabilization-Association Agreement with the European Union will be signed with each candidate country.” This development represents a significant step towards facilitating seamless connectivity for travelers within the European Union.
