Angellov: The situation with the fires in the area is stable

Stojance Angellov, Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, has provided an update on the ongoing fire response, characterizing the overall situation as relatively stable. According to Angellov, several active fires have been successfully extinguished, while others are currently under control. While describing the morning’s status as stable, Angellov cautioned that the fire environment is highly volatile, noting that the situation can change rapidly, and new incidents could emerge across various locations nationwide.

He highlighted one major ongoing concern: a significant and difficult-to-extinguish fire originating from the Struga landfill that has spread into adjacent vegetation. Angellov reported that although efforts were made to partially contain this blaze the previous afternoon, it has unfortunately escaped full control again today. Due to the persistence and scope of this particular incident, authorities are mobilizing significant resources.

As a direct response, at least two aircraft are being dispatched to address the flames at the landfill site. The department continues to monitor all active fires closely, emphasizing that while the immediate overall situation is managed, vigilance remains critical due to the unpredictable nature of the environmental risks.
