Another Kosovar settlement in Paraburgim in Serbia, since May 20, Koci seeks institutional attention

Lawyer Arianit Koci has reported that a Kosovo citizen, Avdi Memçaj, has been held in pre-trial detention in Serbia since May 20. The detention stems from suspicions that Memçaj incited hatred via social media platforms. In a public statement, Koci detailed that the case was initiated by the suspect’s family, who are advocating for his rights.

Koci stated, “Since May 20, in pre-trial detention in Serbia, on suspicion of inciting hatred through social media. Avdi Memçaj was arrested on May 20 at the Merdarë border crossing and has been in pre-trial detention in Serbia since that day, according to information provided by his family.”

Furthermore, Koci conveyed that Memçaj’s family has requested that the handling of the case be approached with diligence. They highlighted that Memçaj has resided in Croatia for several years and possesses multiple properties.

The family’s intervention suggests an effort to ensure that his legal rights are protected throughout the proceedings in Serbia. The detention remains ongoing, and the details surrounding the charges and the family’s requests have been communicated through lawyer Koci.
