However, political analyst Petar Arsovski suggests that the current state of affairs transcends mere strong political engagement. According to Arsovski, the nation is increasingly exhibiting a phenomenon termed “hyperpolitics.”
In an interview with “Sloboden Peçat,” Arsovski elaborated on this concept, explaining that hyperpolitics describes a situation where the primary focus of the public, media outlets, political parties, and even individual voters shifts away from the tangible substance of policies and their direct impact on citizens.
Instead, attention is heavily directed toward underlying political strategies and internal party calculations. Arsovski clarified that this pattern is not unprecedented within the field of political science. He noted that this behavior is historically known as meta-campaigning.
He elaborated that the analysis shifts away from evaluating the actual political messages being delivered. Instead, the focus becomes dissecting the strategic objectives of the campaign headquarters themselves. The implication is that the discourse has become self-referential, prioritizing the mechanics of power and political maneuvering.
While the depth of policy debate may have diminished, the intensity of the political engagement remains high. Arsovski’s analysis suggests that understanding the how—the political calculation—has superseded understanding the what—the policy substance—within the current Macedonian political landscape.
