Australian police have seized 2.7 tons of cocaine, marking the largest seizure of this type in the area. The illicit drugs were discovered last Friday within an underground bunker system in western Sydney. Specifically, the cocaine was found concealed beneath “flooring” inside three transport containers at a property located in Londonderry.
Two men, aged 21 and 25, were arrested at the scene. They are suspected of attempting to evade law enforcement officers. Both individuals have been charged with the possession of a commercial quantity of a controlled border drug that was illegally imported.
Police sources indicated that the cocaine was smuggled into Australia via the small town of Midge Point in North Queensland. The operation was reportedly directed by an organized crime group. The two arrested men were left at the scene following the seizure.
The estimated street value of the seized cocaine was 816 million Australian dollars, equivalent to approximately 500 million euros. The investigation highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat large-scale drug trafficking operations within the region.
