The Albanian Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) has announced it will not oversee the transport of livestock from Qafë Thanë to North Macedonia. The agency’s decision follows concerns regarding the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease, a livestock illness prevalent in neighboring countries. According to AUV officials, veterinarians at the Qafë Thanë border crossing will respond to increased animal numbers by halting livestock transport.
Specifically, the agency intends to prevent the movement of 10 tons of meat into the market as a preventative measure. This action aligns with established protocols designed to mitigate the risk of disease transmission. The AUV’s move demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and proactive measures in safeguarding public health and animal welfare.
