Bajrami calls for an urgent government meeting: Assets for compensating damages to be separated from the budget

Hykmete Bajrami, a Deputy for the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has addressed the significant damages resulting from recent heavy rainfall across the municipality of Istogut and other regions. In a statement shared via Facebook, Bajrami called for immediate and urgent intervention from governmental institutions. She specifically urged the current administration to convene an emergency meeting and allocate necessary budgetary funds to compensate farmers for the losses incurred due to the weather events.

Bajrami stressed that agricultural support is fundamentally a state responsibility, arguing that such critical issues should not be left solely to the resources of local communities. “This is the state’s duty,” Bajrami stated, adding that the LDK demands the establishment of a comprehensive agricultural insurance scheme. This, she argued, would prevent farmers from remaining vulnerable to unpredictable natural occurrences year after year.

In her remarks, she dismissed the need for excuses, emphasizing that tangible actions are required immediately. Bajrami concluded by asserting that farmers cannot be left without adequate support, as the agricultural sector is vital to the nation’s stability. Her appeal highlights a call for systemic change to mitigate future economic shocks affecting the agricultural sector following the reported damages.
