BDI has voiced significant concerns regarding the allocation of 18 million Albanian Lek disbursed by the Ministry of Inter-Municipal Relations, citing an unbalanced distribution process. According to BDI, the support provided across the 36 funded projects displayed a marked disparity in beneficiary representation. The organization noted that among the recipients, only a single Albanian association received support, while organizations representing Macedonian, Serbian, and other communities constituted the majority of the beneficiaries.
Furthermore, BDI raised questions about the relevance of the initiatives themselves. The group stated that a substantial number of the funded projects do not appear to correlate directly with the stated objectives of promoting inter-municipal relations, suggesting they may fall outside the established criteria for the allocated funds. In response to these observed discrepancies, BDI has formally demanded greater transparency from the Ministry.
Specifically, the organization called for the complete public disclosure of the entire evaluation process utilized for the allocation of funds. Additionally, BDI requested full visibility into the specific criteria that guided the selection of the projects. To ensure accountability and verify the equitable distribution of public resources, BDI has called for an independent audit of the entire funding mechanism.
These actions aim to confirm whether the distribution of the 18 million Lek was conducted fairly and in adherence to the intended mandate.
