Following a recent legal action concerning €4.2 million in funding for Kanye West’s concert, the Democratic Party has initiated a new lawsuit against Prime Minister Edi Rama. The suit, filed by the party leader, Gazment Bardhi, centers on allegations related to the “Albanian Files.”
The charges brought forth accuse the head of government of multiple offenses, including abuse of office, passive corruption involving high state officials, and the laundering of proceeds derived from a purported structured criminal group. According to the filing, the accusations draw heavily from a book titled “The Albanian Files – Freedom and Architecture.” The Democratic Party alleges that the book exposes a scheme wherein Prime Minister Rama allegedly orchestrated connections between international architecture studios and Albanian investors.
These purported connections, the lawsuit claims, resulted in the granting of building permits for various development projects within the capital city of Tirana. The lawsuit thus frames the “Albanian Files” as evidence of systemic misconduct, suggesting that state influence was improperly leveraged to benefit specific investors through the awarding of development rights. The filing asserts that these actions constitute serious breaches of public trust and legal statutes.
