BMW will install the largest battery in the new iX5

The BMW iX5 is set to represent an all-electric iteration of the luxury SUV segment, featuring a significant advancement in onboard power storage. Central to this vehicle’s design is a substantial new battery system, which BMW intends to position as one of the most capable in its class. According to available data, the BMW iX5 60 xDrive model is specified with a gross battery capacity of approximately 147.8 kWh.

This figure is notable as it is anticipated to be the largest battery capacity the German manufacturer will integrate into an electric vehicle to date. The usable energy capacity is projected to fall within the range of 141–142 kWh. By incorporating this advanced battery technology and utilizing newer cell architecture, BMW aims to establish a new benchmark for electric SUV range.

The manufacturer projects that the iX5 can achieve an autonomy of up to approximately 1,000 kilometers when tested according to the WLTP standard. Powering this range is a dual electric motor system paired with all-wheel drive capabilities. The integration of these components allows the BMW iX5 to deliver both high performance and extended operational distance, solidifying its presence in the premium electric mobility market.
