Heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms recently impacted the municipality of Istog, resulting in substantial damage across the agricultural sector. The Mayor of Istog, Ilir Ferati, assessed the extent of the damage as catastrophic, noting that a significant portion of the municipality’s agricultural crops were affected. Ferati reported that the damage to the agricultural output was widespread.
He stated that crops, which farmers had cultivated over several months, sustained damage across most villages within the municipality, extending from Istog towards the border with Peja. In Kovragë, an area known for its highly fertile and arable land, crop destruction was reported to be near complete, with associated damage also affecting local family economies. The mayor indicated that teams from the Directorate of Agriculture were assessing the situation.
The scale of the losses has prompted serious concern regarding the immediate viability of the local farming communities. The reported devastation highlights a severe blow to the agricultural economy of Istog, necessitating immediate recovery and support measures for the affected farming populations.
