Bugatti bids farewell to the legendary W16 engine with the latest Mistral model

The year 2026 is set to mark a pivotal period for the Bugatti marque. This year signifies not only the company’s departure from the Volkswagen Group but also the conclusion of the W16 engine era for road-going models. The W16 engine, which also powered the extreme, track-only Bolide, will feature its final appearance in the Roadster.

The culminating model of this lineage is the final W16 Mistral, which has been designated “The Last of Its Kind.” This specific edition features a distinctive two-tone Pearl and Sparkle colorway. Customers who commissioned this final W16 Mistral were able to customize the interior, which prominently displays the signature of Ettore Bugatti on both the headrests and door sills. In adherence to standard procedure, the final Mistral, like all preceding models, underwent a rigorous 400-kilometer testing regimen prior to client delivery.

The discontinuation of the W16 engine platform represents a major transition point for Bugatti. The development of this final Mistral serves to commemorate the powerful engine technology that defined the brand for years, concluding a significant chapter in Bugatti’s automotive history.
