Calm situation in Gazimestan, police forces increase

Police patrols have been established near the entrance to Gazimestan as Serbian citizens gather to commemorate what is termed “Vidovdan.” On-site police officials have reported that the situation remains calm thus far, with expectations that this tranquility will persist. Furthermore, KosovoPress has reported that additional police units have been deployed to monitor and ensure security for the assembled citizens. The date of June 28 marks the commemoration of the Battle of Kosovo, an event historically noted for the engagement where a coalition of Balkan peoples inflicted losses upon the Ottoman Empire.

Following this battle, the peoples of the Balkans faced various outcomes, including conquest by the Ottomans or the requirement to become vassals of the sultan. Albanian princes continued resistance, with Skanderbeg being a notable figure among them. Serbia, in particular, eventually became integrated into the Ottoman Empire.

The presence of increased police personnel underscores the heightened security measures in place for the observance. Despite the historical significance of the day, the current situation is reported to be calm. These measures reflect the ongoing efforts to manage the large gathering of citizens commemorating the historical events associated with the battle.
