Cipenga beats England, Congolese goalkeeper is hero of the first half

The first half of the match between England and the Democratic Republic of Congo concluded with a 1-0 lead for the Congolese side. The breakthrough came in the seventh minute when Brian Cipenga scored a corner kick, directing the ball into the lower corner of the goal to give Congo the initial advantage. England mounted several attacking efforts throughout the half.

Jude Bellingham was notably involved in the English offensive plays. In the 30th minute, Bellingham, the midfielder for Real Madrid, tested the Congolese goalkeeper with a header, prompting an excellent save from the opposing keeper. Later, Marcus Rashford created a scoring opportunity in the 35th minute, but his shot was successfully blocked by the defense.

Despite these chances, Congo remained a threat, coming close to scoring multiple times. The narrative of the first forty-five minutes saw the Congolese team capitalizing on their best opportunity, while England’s attempts were thwarted by both the opposing goalkeeper and, at times, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. The decisive goal by Cipenga set the tone for the first half, giving the Democratic Republic of Congo the narrow lead as the interval whistle blew.
