An analysis of data provided by the Federal Tax Administration (ESTV) has identified which communes and cities in Switzerland registered the highest number of residents with annual incomes exceeding one million francs in 2022. The study provides insight into the distribution of high-income earners across the country’s municipalities. According to the analysis, a total of 7,666 individuals in Switzerland declared annual incomes surpassing the one million franc threshold in that year.
When ranking the locations by the absolute number of millionaires, Cyrihu leads the list with 482 residents. This is followed by Zug, which recorded 431 millionaires, and Geneva, with 272. The fourth-ranked commune is Freienbach in the canton of Schwyz, reporting 251 millionaires, while Wollerau secured fifth place with 208.
However, the data also highlighted differing metrics for measuring wealth concentration. While Cyrihu holds the most millionaires in total count, Wollerau distinguished itself by leading in the percentage of its residents whose incomes exceeded one million francs. These findings illustrate that while some communes boast the largest raw numbers of high-earning residents, other areas demonstrate a higher concentration of wealth relative to their total population.
The report serves as a detailed snapshot of the economic demographics across various Swiss municipalities.
