The Basic Court in Pristina’s Special Department recently issued a significant ruling concerning Ilirjan Krasniqi. The court found Krasniqi guilty of the criminal charge of “Incitement of division and unrest.” Initially, the court sentenced him to six months in prison. However, this penalty was later modified to a fine of 4,200 euros, an adjustment reached following a plea agreement consented to by the accused.
The formal ruling was delivered by the court on April 27, 2026. The basis for the conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 16, 2026, in Gjakova. On that date, Krasniqi posted a comment on his Facebook profile, identified as “ilirjan.krasniqi.9.” The content of the post was deemed by the court to be defamatory, threatening, and hate-inciting, specifically targeting the Islamic faith and the Prophet Muhammad.
This comment was reportedly made in direct response to a comment posted by Fatjon Duraku. The court determined that through this public commentary, Krasniqi had actively incited and disseminated hatred and unrest between different religious groups. The resulting judgment established his culpability for violating laws pertaining to public order and religious harmony.
The final disposition of the case reflects the court’s decision to substitute incarceration with a monetary penalty under the terms of the agreement.
