Kosovo Man Indicted on Charges Related to Flag Incident and Weapons Possession

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo has formally indicted D.Z. on charges of inciting discord and animosity, alongside unauthorized possession of weapons. The indictment stems from an incident that occurred on March 5, 2026, during a public iftar event in Mitrovica’s “Adem Jashari” square – a traditional gathering during the month of Ramadan.

According to the prosecution, D.Z. is suspected of damaging the flag of the Republic of Turkey using a sharp object. The alleged intent was to publicly express outrage and incite hatred and animosity towards the flag.

Furthermore, the indictment details suspicion of unauthorized possession and control of weapons and ammunition. Authorities allege this occurred between an unspecified date and March 12, 2026. One individual was arrested in connection with the incident, relating to the use of a Turkish flag in Mitrovica.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office has stated that investigations are ongoing. The charges against D.Z. are being prosecuted under existing Kosovar law.
