Detained at customs, over 6,000 corn kernels seized for intellectual property infringement

The Customs of Kosovo has seized over 6,000 items found to infringe upon intellectual property rights. According to a customs notice, the matter originated on June 2, 2026. On that date, an importer submitted goods for customs clearance at the Mitrovica Customs Terminal using a pre-declaration process, failing to specify the product trademarks.

Subsequent risk analysis and selection protocols directed the shipment toward a detailed physical and documentary inspection by customs officers. During this thorough inspection, customs personnel identified several elements that suggested potential violations of intellectual property rights. Following established procedures, the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Sector at the Customs of Kosovo contacted the relevant rights holder regarding the findings.

This action initiated the formal process to address the goods suspected of infringing on protected trademarks. The seizure underscores the customs authority’s commitment to enforcing intellectual property regulations at its borders. The detailed examination process allowed customs to verify compliance and take necessary action against unauthorized goods.
