A fatal accident occurred on the Eastern Ring Road of the capital, resulting in the death of two Egyptian workers employed by the company Alba Beton. Authorities suspect the cause of the incident was either a failure of the vehicle’s braking system or a sudden medical collapse experienced by the driver. The incident unfolded when the truck, which was equipped with a concrete pouring pump, entered a roundabout at speed.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle lacked operational brakes, leading to a severe collision. The truck impacted a 28-year-old automobile, subsequently struck the roundabout barriers, and ultimately descended to a lower level. During the aftermath, the driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, while the passenger was transported to a local hospital approximately one hour later.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Mohamed Lotf, aged 30, and Mohamed Ali, aged 44. The two workers had relocated from Egypt to Albania roughly one month prior to the accident, arriving with valid work visas and a one-year residency permit. The circumstances surrounding the crash bear resemblance to a similar incident that occurred in 2023.
Investigations into the mechanical failure and the operational sequence of the heavy machinery are currently underway to determine the precise cause of the fatal accident.
