The Regional Road Communication Unit in Gjakova has escalated its efforts to enhance traffic safety by implementing operational plans designated “Alcohol” and “Summer 2026.” According to a recent police announcement, over the past ten days, the unit conducted a series of awareness, preventive, and punitive activities aimed at accident prevention and improving safety for all road users. During these comprehensive checks, a total of 1,892 breathalyzer tests were administered. These tests revealed that 123 drivers were operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the application of protective measures to their respective driver’s licenses.
In addition to alcohol-related enforcement, the police issued 1,580 fines addressing various traffic infractions. These violations included unsafe overtaking, speeding, and the use of mobile phones while driving. These coordinated actions underscore the commitment of local authorities to maintain safe road conditions within Gjakova.
