Durmishi Announces Planned Minimum Wage Increase to €500 by Term’s End
Skopje – Minister of Economy and Labor, Besar Durmishi, affirmed the government’s commitment to raising the minimum wage during a parliamentary session on April 30, 2026. Speaking in response to questions from deputies, Durmishi highlighted the government’s progress in increasing compensation within the education, healthcare, and security sectors – key components of the public sector – over the past two years. According to the government’s plan, the minimum wage will reach 500 euros by the conclusion of the current term.
Durmishi stated that this represents a fulfillment of a campaign promise, one that the previous administration had also outlined. “I tell you with full conviction that by the end of the term it will be the minimum wage 500 euros,” he declared. The Minister emphasized a phased approach to the increase, aiming for stability alongside gradual economic growth.
He referenced previous pledges regarding the minimum wage made by the preceding LSDM-BDI coalition. The planned adjustments are intended to benefit workers across the public sector, according to the government’s strategy. The focus remains on achieving a sustainable and rising minimum wage level.
