Kosovo Union Calls for Equal Treatment of Private Sector Workers
The Federation of Private Sector Workers of Kosovo has formally requested the Kosovo Assembly to address disparities in benefits and compensation between the private sector and the public sector. In a letter to Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu, the union voiced concerns regarding the perceived inequality in wages and benefits. The proposal, addressed to the Assembly Speaker and several parliamentary committees including those aligned with the LDK, PDK, and AAK groups, highlighted the exclusion of private sector workers from key advantages currently enjoyed by public sector employees.
Specifically, the union cited the lack of access to benefits such as the 13th salary and other established allowances within the public sector. According to Jusuf Azemi, the head of the federation, this imbalance is contributing to a negative trend within the labor market. He stated that the situation is prompting skilled professionals to migrate from the private sector towards employment opportunities within the public sector.
The Federation’s request seeks to establish equitable treatment for all workers across the Kosovo economy, aiming to stabilize the labor market and encourage continued professional development within the private sector.
